Superintendent's Updates

Last updated on November 23rd, 2020

Dear Yamhill Carlton Students and Families,

I hope you are enjoying your conference and connection time with teachers and support staff in YC this week! I know staff were excited about the opportunity to meet with you and worked hard and thoughtfully to prepare. Your interest, support, and engagement in your child’s learning really make a difference. Thank you.

I want to wish you a wonderful holiday and hope that you are able to find time to relax, refresh, and find joy. I know these times can cause us to focus on what we are missing but I encourage you to join me in making time to pay attention to those things and those people we are thankful for. I want to share my genuine gratitude for the opportunity to serve students and families in YC during this year of transition. It has been challenging for all of us and your support and patience is truly appreciated.

As we begin the holiday season we know our gatherings can be important opportunities to reconnect with family and friends. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic is worsening, and small household gatherings are a key contributor to the rise in COVID-19 cases. As we celebrate this holiday season, please join us all in considering how to take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to keep our friends, families, and our community healthy and safe.

Travel Advisory

We’ve been asked to remind our communities that the state of Oregon, along with Washington and California, has issued a travel advisory, urging against non-essential out-of-state travel. The travel advisory is in effect now for all Oregon counties through December 2nd but may be extended for certain Oregon counties past that date. We want to clarify what the travel advisory means for staff, students and families in our community.

The advisory asks people to self-quarantine for 14 days after arriving from another state or country, and encourages residents to stay local. The 14-day quarantine does not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel, such as every day work or medical care. Everyone in Oregon is subject to the self-quarantine advisory if they travel out of state for non-essential travel. Thanks again for doing all you can to care for one another and to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Every effort we make will help to save lives and support our pathway back to school.

On Giving Thanks…

Many writers, leaders, teachers, and philosophers have shared their belief that happiness begins with gratitude. Denis Waitley, noted author and motivational speaker captures this idea stating, “Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. Happiness is living each moment with love, grace, and gratitude.” With this in mind I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

With Gratitude!
