Paid Leave Oregon FAQ
Who is Covered?
To be eligible, you must have:
- been continuously employed for 30 calendar days; or
- been eligible for benefits under your previous Oregon employer’s equivalent plan; and
- earned at least $1,000 in four out of five quarters before requesting paid leave.
When can you take paid leave?
- To care for yourself or members of your family during the birth of a child, or to bond with a child after birth, adoption, or placement of a child in your home through foster care
- To care for yourself during a serious health condition
- To care for a family member when they have a serious health condition
- If you or your child experience sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment, or stalking

When do I tell my employer?
You must give your employer 30 days’ notice In emergency situations, you must notify your employer within 24 hours. Enter leave in Frontline as Oregon Paid Leave.
What work can I continue to do when I am on leave?
You cannot work during days that you are on leave. This includes lesson planning, grading, coaching, attending club meetings, conferences, training, etc.
Can I use my leave in partial day increments?
PFMLI must be taken in full day increments. A partial day does not qualify.
Who do I communicate changes with if they occur during my leave?
If leave start and/or end dates change, you must notify American Fidelity as soon as possible along with your building administrator and District Office . To file a claim amendment, log into your americanfidelity.com/login or AFmobile account, select your current claim and click on Make Changes to your Paid Leave Claim.
If the District identifies that you have been paid by both American Fidelity and the District, the District may adjust your wages in the following months, if appropriate. If this were to occur, the District would reduce your pay based on extra wages paid and return any leave balances used. This will be assessed on a case-by-case scenario, as all situations will be unique.

Does PFML pull from my sick leave balance?
Sick leave is not used unless the employee chooses to supplement pay with sick leave. You have the option to opt into supplementing your pay if your regular district salary exceeds your cap for PFMLI. If you would like to opt into supplementing your pay send an email to Shelly Ready, readys@ycschools.org .
