Announcement from Bobby Dixon – Facilities Director YCSD

The school District organized a community work day to help make improvements to the Stadium at YCHS.  It was a huge success and we cannot thank those enough who came out and donated their time, talents, and equipment etc...  we had more than 20 volunteers attend the work day.   Thank you!!  We will be organizing another work day later this Spring.  Check back here for more detailed information and the date of the next workday. 

Thank you to following community members who came out to help with the Stadium workday and donated their time and/or equipment.  Your contribution was invaluable to the District.  If you have not seen the work taking place at the YCHS stadium come by and check it out.  It's amazing what our community can accomplish when we all pull together!

From your Superintendent...

Yamhill and Carlton Community Members:

      I have been asked how I feel about the passage of Measures 66 and 67. The truth is I have mixed feelings. On one hand I really didn’t know what we would do as a school system if the Measures had not passed. In fact, without the revenue from Measures 66 and 67 the school would have been in a deep crisis mode. But on the other hand I worry about how the Measures will impact our business community. More than anything I resent business being pitted against education as if the two should be foes.
     I also find it unfortunate there is misinformation about how the tax measures themselves would make schools whole or even flush with money. That is simply not true. In the near future, I will receive from the State, and will post on this site, our estimated State School Fund for 2010-11. It is rather complicated, but I will do the best I can to show how the school revenue will at best be up slightly next school year and at worst actually decline.  What I do know is that our school, which is a reflection of the Oregon economy, is not out of the “woods.”
     I do hope some positive comes out of this election and Oregon uses this vote as momentum to figure out a long-term taxation solution that never again pits economic classes or businesses against each other, or schools, during difficult financial times.
      But no matter the final outcome of this I know the staff at YC will continue to maximize our educational mission while reducing excess expenditures, all in the name of providing a quality education to the children of this community.
